Job Description

We seek a Lecturer with expertise in sound recording, music production and studio practice. The post is offered on a full-time open basis from 1 September 2024, and the role-holder can be appointed to a contract that includes either teaching and administration only, or teaching, research and administration. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with significant industry achievements and teaching experience within a higher education context. You will have a specialism that complements our strengths in acoustic sound recording, popular music production across genres and cultural studies, and that allows us to develop our teaching (and potentially research) in related areas. Role You will lead our MA in Music Production and Audio Cultures and contribute to our BA Music and Sound Recording. You will supervise individual undergraduates and MA students and potentially also PhD students. Your administrative duties will involve participation in committees, and activities related to student recruitment, pastoral care and public outreach. You will commit to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the School. If appointed to a contract that includes research, you will undertake a programme of independent research that includes major grant applications and leads to high-quality outputs for the School’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). Skills, Experience & Qualification needed • You will have a PhD in Music Technology, Audio Engineering or a subject related to popular music studies and/or equivalent professional experience. • You will have appropriate academic teaching qualifications/experience or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. • You will have specialist practical knowledge of sound recording, music production and studio practice across a range of genres and styles. • If appointed to a contract that includes research, you will have a well-developed research profile and evidence of dissemination of research findings through publications, presentations or practice research. • You will have evidence of successful Higher Education course planning and student supervision and will have knowledge and experience of a range of teaching strategies to enthuse, engage and retain students, including those from underrepresented social groups. • You will have highly developed oral and written communication skills. • You will demonstrate a collaborative ethos, be willing to work proactively with colleagues and display a positive attitude towards colleagues and students. • You will show commitment to the School/University through the undertaking of administration duties.
