Music Education is an important area within the School of Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of York: you will join an expanding team of Music Education specialists with particular interests in student-centred pedagogy, reflective practice and health and wellbeing. We seek an Associate Lecturer with expertise in music education. The post is offered on a 0.5 FTE basis (fixed-term for 12 months). It will include teaching and administration duties. Role You will deliver teaching (both practice-based and theory-led) on our MA in Music Education programmes, particularly the MA Music Education: Group Teaching and Leadership, but also the MA Music Education: Instrumental and Vocal Teaching, should your specialisms intersect appropriately. You will also supervise independent postgraduate projects in Music Education. Your administrative duties will involve participation in relevant committees and meetings as well as activities related to pastoral care, student recruitment and public outreach. Skills, Experience & Qualification needed • You will have a postgraduate qualification in Music Education or Music or equivalent professional pedagogical experience. You will have an appropriate teaching qualification or relevant experience and a willingness to engage in continuing professional development. • You will have specialist knowledge of music education, in particular in relation to group teaching with practical experience of working in early years settings and/or with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). • You will be able to design and deliver teaching material across a range of modules and demonstrate evidence of successful Higher Education course planning and student supervision. • You will have knowledge and experience of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students. • You will have highly developed oral and written communication skills. • You will have a commitment to high quality, and be able to display creativity, initiative and judgement. • You will demonstrate a collaborative ethos, be willing to work proactively with colleagues and display a positive attitude towards colleagues and students.
