AQUARELLE QUARTET Mike Baker Vasilis Bessas James Jervis Craig Ogden Recognised as one of the world’s leading guitar quartets, the award-winning Aquarelle Guitar Quartet is a dynamic and innovative group known for its extraordinary ensemble in performance, expansive repertoire, and ground-breaking work in developing the guitar quartet medium. Originally formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 1999 the quartet has performed extensively both internationally and across the UK and their recordings for Chandos Records have been critically acclaimed. The AGQ is dedicated to presenting music from around the globe, spanning the period from the renaissance right through to the present day alongside their own arrangements of music. PROGRAMME: Carmen Suite - Georges Bizet (arr. William Kanengiser) A 6 movement instrumental version of the famous opera by Bizet masterfully arranged by William Kanengiser of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Por Una Cabeza - Carlos Gardel (arr Vasilis Bessas) This tango, by one of the most prolific Argentinian composers Carlos Gardel, became popular worldwide as part of the soundtrack for the film Scent of a Woman. Manhã de carnaval – Luiz Bonfà (arr. Vasilis Bessas) Written for the 1959 romantic tragedy film Black Orfeus, Manhã de Carnaval refers to the day after the Rio de Janeiro carnival. De Usuahia a la Quiaca - Gustavo Santaolalla (arr. Vasilis Bessas) From the soundtrack of Motorcycle Diaries, after the life of Ernesto Guevara. A Furiosa – Paulo Bellinati Brazilian guitarist/composer Paulo Bellinati's tribute to "the furious ones", the street musicians of his home country. Alfonsina y el mar – Ariel Ramirez (arr. Roland Dyens) A poignant arrangement for four guitars by the French/Tunisian master arranger, composer and guitarist Roland Dyens of a classic song about the poet Alfonsina Storni.
