"Universiti Malaya (UM) is Malaysia's oldest university, located in Kuala Lumpur. It was founded in 1905 as the King Edward VII College of Medicine and later merged with Raffles College in 1949 to become the University of Malaya. The university aimed to bring together people from diverse backgrounds and promote joint efforts. It experienced rapid growth, leading to the establishment of autonomous divisions in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in 1959. In 1962, the University of Malaya was officially established as a national university. The installation of the first Chancellor, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, took place in 1962. The current Chancellor is Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah of Perak Darul Ridzuan."
